Traveling is, for many, one of the great pleasures in life.  The ability to move freely around the world, experiencing many different cultures adds fullness to our lives.  But travel also has its drawbacks, particularly if you enjoy sleeping in your own bed.  That fact alone may help you decided which hotel reward credit card you should use for your business or vacation travel.

If you have done any traveling to speak of at all, I’m sure you have favorite hotels and some that are not so much a favorite.  It may be the locations, amenities or the free soap they offer that attracts you, but ultimately, the choice is yours.  But here are some of the items you may want to consider and take advantage of from here on out.

There are many great hotels all over the world, some right in your backyard, not literally of course, but nearby.  The competition is very high amount top tier hotels and they do almost anything to get and keep your business.  Once your are a customer, the best hotels try to get you to return on any future trips.  With right hotel reward credit card, it makes it that much easier for you to return.  For example, if you have a Starwood Preferred card by American Express, then Starwood will do what they can to get you to return to one of the many locations.

Air, Sea and Land

There is another advantage with these reward type hotel cards.  Often you can get the same benefits if you use the card for airline tickets, car rentals, or sea cruises along with your hotel.  The rewards can range from free stays to points used for purchasing consumer goods, to cash back as a percentage of the amount you spend.  Lets face it, if you’re going to spend the money anyway, why not take advantage of the rewards offered.

Perks

These range from hotelier to hotelier.  Taking advantage of them while you are on your trip means that you won’t forget them, which is what happens to most people.  The perks offered, such as a spa treatment, free upgrade in a car rental, priority seating in restaurants etc., always cost the hotel money.  But they know that only a certain percentage of people actually will take the perk offered and that is factored in.  Try not to be one of those who helps pay for someone else’s reward – after all, who can’t use a spa treatment or a free tote bag.

Since the loyalty is so important to the bottom line of a hotel, personal attention is at the heart of the loyalty programs.  After you check it, the better hotels require their staff to remember your name and greet you on your next visit.  There is nothing nicer in the morning when you are greeted and appreciated for your stay at a fine hotel, other than the Godiva chocolate on your pillow before you go to bed.
